Today’s Journey Tarot The Sixes

The Sixes from the Today’s Journey Tarot Deck all have to do with harmony and the stability of everything coming together – at least for a while. After the turmoil of change from the Fives, the Sixes are a time of overcoming difficulties and putting obstacles behind us. The Element expresses the different approaches this may take. For those driven by the Fire Element it means basking in success, the emotional Water Element just wants peace and quiet. The Element of the mind, Air packs up and moves on to a better way and the Earth Element finds that there is enough to share.

The Six of Fire shows an athlete running with a torch. She has been given this honor because of her athletic achievement and also her service to humanity. Admirers cheer her on. She is a symbol of accomplishment on many levels but personally it is a moment of achievement when everything she has worked for is recognized and rewarded. Unlike the confusion of the Five, focus and commitment have created success.  It is a celebration of the triumph of the human spirit. The Six of Water shows two little boys playing in a creek. One of the boys has discovered a frog and he gleefully shares his find with his friend. These children are open to the simple pleasures of life. This is a peaceful time of play and taking pleasure in the moment. Again unlike the Five, the participants in this card don’t long to be anywhere but here and now. The Six of Air shows a family all packed up and moving down the road to a new home. They made a decision concerning what was best for them, overcame their fears (with their intellect) and chose change. This journey takes them away from the deception of the Five and toward security and stability. It is a new beginning where anything is possible. The Six of Earth shows a man in his car stopped at an intersection. Solicitors are collecting money and one holds a bucket up to the car window. The driver is reaching for money but he is obviously annoyed with being hijacked in this way. The Six of Earth is about giving because you want to and because you acknowledge that you have plenty to share. Contributing to charity has become for many just one more obligation that must be fulfilled. We write a check or drop coins in a bucket and think we’ve done our part – even when we resent the intrusion. The Five of Earth was about loss. The Six is about having enough and the pleasure of giving freely.

Today’s Journey Tarot Fives

The Fives from the Today’s Journey Tarot deck all have to do with change. Either a change is needed, a change has occurred or it is about to happen – depending on where the card falls in the layout. The Element determines how this change is taking affect and what it will mean to your life. Fire can bring about a sudden and confusing change as the energy becomes scattered and disjointed. Water is the emotional Element that makes it difficult to accept change and creates longing for the way things were before. Air is contrived change brought about by someone’s intellectual agenda. It could be positive or negative of course but it is usually well planned. Earth hits us where we live. This could involve a major change in the course of our lives.

The Five of Fire shows a street basketball game. The young men are all very competitive and combative as they try to score points. One is already been knocked to the ground and the show of stress on their faces is very intense. There are no teams or rules or referees. The change that can come about with this type of powerful energy can be totally out of control and even violent. This energy takes on a life of its own and replenishes itself any way possible. When our lives are driven and everything seems to be snowballing into a more and more frantic pace we are susceptible to accidents, illnesses, rash decisions, relationship misunderstandings or worse. This change could be avoided by calming the confusion and refocusing your attention. The Five of Water shows a middle aged man reliving the glory days of his youth by looking through his yearbook. Trophies from the past surround him. The change that is needed here is releasing regrets and learning to live in the present. The man is so emotionally attached to his former fame that his life today is not fulfilling. The Five of Air shows a used car lot and the unscrupulous salesman who works there. He has just made a deal. Often change comes about in our lives because someone else has inflicted it upon us. There is usually a dishonest aspect to this – we are cheated, stolen from, or deceived in some way. This is a very destructive way to use the power of thought, but there are those out there who take pride in being able to outsmart others for their own gain. This is simply a fact of life. It is up to us to be reasonably careful and alert for this type of behavior. The Five of Earth shows a grieving woman seated before a stone monument.  A white feather floats down behind her. There is loss in life that brings about drastic changes. It is appropriate to grieve this loss but at some point healing begins to take place and we rebuild a different life for ourselves. The feather represents that hope and the eventual freedom from grief. We just have to begin by seeing that the feather exists.
