The Eight of Cups shows a man walking away from eight stacked cups in the foreground. There is an eclipse in the sky. Traditionally this card represents the completion of something or of a phase of something. He has turned his back on whatever the cups represent for him and he’s headed up the mountain for a new perspective. It is difficult in life sometimes to know when something is finished. We often hang on far too long. This card suggests that the time is now to move on. You’ve done all that you can do. The Eight of Water from Today’s Journey Tarot shows an artist putting away his tools after completing his painting of the fountain. He is satisfied that his work is finished and has also turned away from it. It takes honesty to see this point sometimes, but when something is over, it is over. It is time to move on.

The Seven of Cups is filled with symbolism. The cups in the clouds contain a blue woman’s head, a cloaked angel, a yellow snake, a blue castle, jewels, a victory wreath, and a dragon. One of the cups has a skull design. The man in shadow contemplates their meaning. We do too. Although this card is associated with dreams and dreaming, the symbols are not all apparently discernable. We would need to research and memorize the complex symbolism associated with this card to understand it fully. Today’s Journey Tarot’s Seven of Water however, is clearly a child sitting at the wheel of a ship pretending to be the captain. His imagination allows him to believe that what he is dreaming of today will happen tomorrow. Our dreams are never as big as when we were little. The Seven suggests that those dreams are attainable and we should never let them go. While this card may not explore the depth of dreams as the Seven of Cups does, it captures the essence of what dreaming is all about.
