Today’s Journey Tarot Child Cards

The Child cards from Today’s Journey Tarot all represent the expression of the Element in an immature way. The attributes of each Element have just been awakened. All of the cards in the deck can represent people or situations but the Family cards more specifically point to people, who embody the qualities of each suit. They can still represent situations in which the Element is being expressed immaturely.

The Child of Fire shows a young boy playing video games. He is mesmerized by the screen to the exclusion of anything else around him. The games have become his passion. Newly awakened, the Fire Element is not yet controlled. Misdirected or undeveloped passion can lead to singular focus or even obsession. The Child has limited his world to the games and all of his energy is directed toward that fixation. Although this passion is immature, it is very powerful. With control and direction the Child of Fire has the ability to master anything he sets his mind to. As he matures he will learn to use the Fire energy more productively. The Child of Water shows a young boy standing outside in a field of grass just as it is beginning to rain. He is holding out his hand to catch the first raindrop. There is a guitar slung over his back. Do you remember the first time you heard music that moved you? Probably not. But if you did you would be the Child of Water. He hears the expression of emotions in the world and he must be a part of that. This Child is sensitive and creative and needs to channel his emotions in an expressive way. While the Child of Fire needs direction and control, the Child of Water needs nurturing and the freedom to emote through a creative process. The Child of Air shows a young girl flying a kite. She has just gotten it up into the air. The yellow kite is a symbol of her thoughts which are beginning to take independent form and are not yet restricted by the limitations of a mature mind. Without limitations she can have ideas that could change the world. But her thoughts are not yet focused. They change from moment to moment depending on whatever catches her attention, like the wind moves the kite. It is a fine line between focusing our thoughts and stifling their creative ideas. The Child of Earth shows a young girl at a science fair. She is busy looking up more information about the exhibits she has seen. This Child pursues knowledge of her environment. She has awakened to the world around her and wants to know more. The Earth Element offers stability and endurance as well as abundance and growth. As she continues to learn more and more she will build a solid foundation for herself and her life.

Today’s Journey Tarot Tens

The Tens from Today’s Journey Tarot are all about how we experience change or transition at the beginning of a new cycle in our lives. In numerology, ten becomes another one when we break it down to one plus zero. So we have another new beginning, but it is on a more evolved level than the first one because of all that we have experienced through the remaining nine cards. We have an opportunity here to move forward but as always, the choice remains with us and is enhanced or encumbered by the suit Element.

The Ten of Fire shows a major traffic jam. Vehicles are stopped bumper to bumper on a hill making it impossible to see ahead to what is causing the delay. It has gone on so long that people are out of their cars and obviously agitated. The Fire Element is very resistant to anything which impedes its progress. If something stands in the way, Fire churns out of control. That energy must go somewhere and if not forward then it can become volatile and subject to displays of frustration and worse. In the Ten of Fire we have put up a road block to going forward, to change. We often resist a new cycle by holding on with all of the energy of Fire to the old cycle. We are reluctant to let go and move forward especially when we can’t see what is ahead. When we try to carry the old cycle with us into the new it can leave us feeling overwhelmed and burdened. The transition needs to be made. We need to let go. The Ten of Water shows a family having fun in their backyard swimming pool. This is a cycle with a happy ending and we just might be tempted to stay here forever. But we are urged to move on to new emotional challenges or we will become stagnant. It is okay to rest here a while, enjoy, and recharge but eventually the Water Element must flow on its ever changing course. We take with us the love and family support we have created in the old cycle. The Ten of Air shows an area that has been destroyed by some unknown calamity. Buildings are in rubble but a group of butterflies have landed here to remind us that the old can be transformed into something new and beautiful again. This transition is painful but the worst is over and it is time to rebuild and begin again with the new cycle. Although there is little choice but to move on, the blessings from the Air Element that propel us forward are fresh ideas and the promise of a new way of life. The Ten of Earth shows a grandfather sharing stories with his grandchildren. He has their rapt attention as he tells them about his life. This Ten reflects the cycle of life. It is time to pass on what you have learned and what you have to future generations. It may be physical things like an inheritance, or knowledge and traditions. The Earth Element endures and the only way what we have created here can endure is if we pass it on to the next generation or next person in line. It is time to share the bounty of your life.
