Today’s Journey Tarot Symbolism from “Today’s Journey Tarot, A Traveler’s Guide”

Cover

A symbol tells an idea, fact, or stands for something else. Anything can be a symbol. Some symbols are the same for everyone. A smile always means friendliness. There are also personal symbols. These are special to individuals. For people who love dogs a dog would be positive, but if you were afraid of dogs it might represent fear. There are no right and wrong meanings for symbols. We use symbols in everything we do. It is just another form of language. The classic Tarot deck is filled with esoteric symbolism that is sometimes difficult to understand. Expanding Dimensions chose to use modern symbolism in Today’s Journey Tarot. It is easy to relate to the contemporary imagery. Some of the general symbolism in Today’s Journey Tarot include:

Today’s Journey Tarot Key 1 Manifestation – The Magician

The traditional meaning for The Magician is learning to use abilities or tools to manifest on the earth plane. It is the personal will in unison with the Divine. The Rider/Waite/Smith deck shows The Magician in front of a table which holds these tools, the four suits of the Tarot. The symbology includes flowers, a lemniscate above his head, a belt in the form of a snake and on and on. Expanding Dimensions, the creators of Today’s Journey Tarot replaced the character of the magician with a scientist in Key 1 Manifestation. In past times, scientists were often accused of being magicians and some of them paid with their lives. The scientist in Manifestation is working out a formula on a green board. Within this formula are the glyphs for each of earth’s elements, Fire, Water, Air and Earth and the conclusion of the formula is signified by a merkaba, representing transformation. On the table behind him are various resources he is using to aid him on his quest. Both the magician and the scientist use the tools of the Universe, the elements, and their wills to create. The two cards are very similar. Both characters are actively participating to create what they desire.
