The Twos from Today’s Journey Tarot all symbolize decisions or choices that need to be made or have been made leading to the present circumstances. The situation is determined by the Element suit represented.
The Two of Fire shows a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new lighting business. Fire is the Element of energy and ambition of the kind that is needed to successfully start up a new business. The choice with this card is based on the drive to complete what is started – to see it through. Many people dream of starting their own business but the Two of Fire has actually accomplished that. What makes the difference is pushing forward and overcoming all obstacles along the way. Failure is not an option and no excuses are allowed. Somewhere along the way a decision was made that supported success. The Two of Water is obviously about relationships. It shows a man and a woman holding hands as they wade on a moonlight night. Although many people feel helpless and driven to certain relationships, this card suggests that who we love is a choice we’ve made. That partnership is the single most important decision we’ll ever make because it influences everything else in our lives. The Two of Water recommends a partnership that is mutually nurturing and reciprocally inspiring. It is up to us to choose wisely. The Two of Air shows a young woman throwing darts at a carnival game. She has her hand over her eyes so she cannot see the two balloons on the board. The Element here is about our thoughts and the Two of Air suggests that we often make blind choices. We don’t gather enough information or we make impulse decisions that lead us into a place we wish we hadn’t gone. We just don’t think about things enough before we dive right in. This card suggests an informed decision is needed – gather information, take time to mull it over. The Two of Earth shows a woman who is trying to do it all. She works at a busy diner where her duties are countless and at the same time she is helping her daughter with homework at the counter. This card suggests that there are times when we need to choose between one thing and another. The Element of Earth is where we live; our foundation. If that foundation is scattered and hectic, our lives will be also. In the world today there is pride in the ability to multitask. But are we really just doing too much with too little attention? Choose one thing at a time and do it well. Simplify your life and relieve the stress. It is as uncomplicated as that.

The Ones from the Today Journey Tarot deck represent the ultimate expression of each of the Elements. We call these cards Ones instead of Aces, as in traditional decks, because Today’s Journey Tarot is designed to peel away layers of symbolism and refer to the cards and their meanings in the clearest and simplest terms. The suit names have been reduced to the Elements that influence them; Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Fire represents energy, strength, passion and drive. Water represents the emotions – from the base to the profound. Air represents the mind, intellect, and knowledge. Earth represents growth, stability, abundance and endurance. Each of the cards of the suit is governed by these characteristics in one way or another.
The Ones all have some things in common. They can represent powerful new beginnings, but depending on the suit, the beginning is in different areas of life. The One of Fire for example, which shows the sun’s powerful energy, symbolizes a beginning with a great deal of passion and creativity. Because the Fire energy is so volatile, this beginning could require strength to control and stamina to maintain. The One of Water shows the sea in many forms – from calm to stormy. It is an emotional beginning that could offer new awareness and understanding. However this depth of emotion may also require soul searching and self-analysis – which can be illuminating or devastating. The One of Air shows sea oats on a beach being tossed around by the wind. Our thoughts sometimes play that same game with us. This new beginning could come from a new idea, a new truth or clarification of information that makes it possible to begin. We have to direct our thoughts in ways that sustain this beginning rather than let doubts or fears sabotage what we have created. The One of Earth shows our beautiful planet seemingly floating in the magnetosphere. Whatever is begun under its influence will be as enduring as the Earth itself. It assures abundance and growth will come with this new beginning.
