Today’s Journey Tarot Youth Cards

The Youth personifies the energy of adolescence within each Element. It is the expression of passion, emotion, thought and devotion before it has the opportunity to mature. Although the Youth cards are more mature than the Child cards, they have not yet reached the point of the Element in its most mature expression. These cards often represent young people or people of any age expressing immaturity. They can of course also represent situations in which judgment or actions lack maturity. There is a strong energy within each of these cards, expressing the limitless life force of the young.

The Youth of Fire shows a young man riding his motorcycle through the countryside. Through his body language and the décor of the bike he exhibits raw passion. The Fire Element at this stage of development is used impulsively. This young man has so much energy and drive that he knows no boundaries. He does what he wants, when he wants to do it. This could make him impulsive at the very least but he could also be reckless in his desire for action. His decisions are made impulsively. In a situation however, spontaneity may be what is needed to move forward toward having a passion fulfilled. The Youth of Water shows a young man riding a surf board. He is obviously having a great time and celebrating life at that moment. This Youth of the Water Element has no fear of showing exactly how he feels. He is willing to go along for the ride and enjoy what comes his way. The lack of maturity here is on an emotional basis. He is too young to make a commitment or even take responsibility for his emotional responses. If this is a situation, it could be a new love interest or a one night stand. It is important to recognize the emotional immaturity to keep from expecting too much from him. The Youth of Air shows a young woman just getting ready to jump off a cliff in a hand glider. She is daring and adventurous like all of the Youths but her intellectual skills, while still immature, have enabled her to prepare herself with the proper gear before she jumps. What she lacks is experience. She may think she knows everything about hand gliding, but this is the first time she has tried it. This card suggests that preparation for something is needed. The Youth of Earth shows a young man working as a tour guide in a cave. This Youth is the most stable of all because of the Earth Element’s influence. He works hard and enjoys it. But his immature devotion to labor may set up a pattern in the future of a workaholic or someone who strives continuously in his career and stresses over it. When this card falls for a situation it is usually about a career change that is needed or one that may be coming.
