Today’s Journey Tarot Nine of Fire – Nine of Wands
In the Nine of Wands a man has built a wall of Wands around himself for protection from his enemies. It is evident that he has recently been in a battle from the bandage on his head. There are all kinds of ways we can build walls around ourselves, but in modern society one of the things we do is live in protected or gated communities. The Nine of Fire from Today’s Journey Tarot shows one of these communities and the security it provides. But just like the Nine of Wands, it suggests that when security is traded for liberty, you will have neither. There is a difference between protection and isolation.

Today’s Journey Tarot Eight of Fire – Eight of Wands
The Eight of Wands from the Rider/Waite/Smith deck simply shows eight wands flying through the air. When I first started learning the cards, this one was particularly hard for me because it didn’t seem to have any symbols at all. But the wands represent spasmodic energy and movement. Today’s Journey Tarot used the image of a fireworks display to express this powerful movement of energy. In modern life, we are all drawn to this energy as we watch the intense lights and sounds of fireworks. We are also aware that if this energy is not controlled, it could be dangerous and at the very least, an unfulfilling show of lights – a waste of energy.

The Seven of Wands from the Rider/Waite/Smith deck is one of the easier cards to read. The man on the hill is defending himself from unknown attackers. The expression on his face and the fact that his shoes don’t match tell us a lot about his state of mind. He is having difficulty meeting the challenges and overcoming the obstacles before him. Today’s Journey Tarot brought this concept into the modern age of paparazzi and celebrity harassment in the Seven of Fire. Every life situation has pressures. There are times when we can’t eliminate them. We can choose to persevere, or allow the adversity to be a catalyst for failure.
