The Nine of Air shows a woman at her kitchen table, obviously distraught over the pile of bills stretched out in front of her. A checkbook lays closed on the table. Her large coffee cup is empty and her ashtray is full. The kitchen is dark and she is wearing a yellow housecoat. The refrigerator and counter top are chartreuse. There is a caged gray cockatiel next to her. Worry is a useless emotion that serves no purpose. It eats up our energy and fills our mind with ineffectual thoughts that do not offer solutions. We worry about everything, whether it is an actual situation in our lives or the thousands of what ifs that plagues us every day. We become trapped by these thoughts just as the bird is imprisoned by its cage. The coffee cup and ashtray show she’s been here a long time trying to figure out what to do. She can’t see a solution to her troubles. The bills spread before her signify the problems keeping her awake. Chartreuse represents the mind’s interference with growth.
