The Knight of Cups from the Rider/Waite/Smith deck shows a knight mounted on a gray horse. He is dressed in armor, including a winged helmet. He holds a cup in his outstretched hand. This knight is riding forth to meet his destiny and pursuing a path of self discovery. Since cups are the suit of the emotions, he is seeking to learn emotional expression, which may mean that he offers his love in irresponsible ways. Today’s Journey Tarot’s Youth of Water celebrates life to the fullest. He surfs the waves with abandon in his pursuit of the joys of life. This is the approach he takes in life and relationships so like the knight, his emotional immaturity causes him to be careless with the emotions of others.

The Page of Cups is described as a spiritual child – sensitive, reflective and creative. The traditional Rider/Waite image of the Page shows a young courtier contemplating a blue fish emerging from a yellow cup. Without further study, this doesn’t really tell you very much about the Page. In Expanding Dimensions’ updated version of this card, the Child of Water, we see a child standing in a field of grass with his back to us. He has his guitar slung over his back and is reaching up to catch the very first drops of rain (water is the element of emotion). This is a child who is curious about his own feelings and approaches them with childlike wonder. Because he is a child, he is embarking on a wonderful discovery of his own emotional awakening through music. The yin/yang symbol on the guitar case is an expression of balance, indicating that music is a constructive outlet for his blossoming emotions.
