Today’s Journey Tarot Symbolism from “Today’s Journey Tarot, A Traveler’s Guide” Eight of Air

The Eight of Air shows a woman huddled on a brown couch in her home. There are multiple locks securing the front door. Her head is buried in her knees. This card symbolizes the imprisonment of fear, which immobilizes, confuses, and confines. Fear is a natural impulse. Our fight or flight instincts save lives. This useful tool can become a plaything of the mind which then distorts an advantage into a burden. The woman’s focus is on her gray sweat suit. She can see nothing but her own despair. Brown is a foundation color. Hers is locked in this room. Locks are usually protection, but her extreme use of them symbolizes overprotective thought. Across the street the green grass represents normal growth, hers has withered. The balloon indicates the uplifting thoughts which could offer her freedom.
