The Rider/Waite/Smith deck shows a young man holding a sword which extends off of the top of the page. He is looking back over his shoulder and a flock of birds fly overhead. This is all the hints we get, other than the colors of his clothes, about what this page represents. If we know the Swords are the suit of Air and the Air element represents the intellect, we might come to the conclusion that this page has something to do with thought. The modern version of this card is the Child of Air from Today’s Journey Tarot. She is flying a kite. This child is just beginning to learn how to fly. Because the Air element is present here, the yellow kite represents her thoughts, which are beginning to take flight as well. They are as pure and fresh as the child herself. There are no restrictions or limitations to her ideas.
