In the Nine of Wands a man has built a wall of Wands around himself for protection from his enemies. It is evident that he has recently been in a battle from the bandage on his head. There are all kinds of ways we can build walls around ourselves, but in modern society one of the things we do is live in protected or gated communities. The Nine of Fire from Today’s Journey Tarot shows one of these communities and the security it provides. But just like the Nine of Wands, it suggests that when security is traded for liberty, you will have neither. There is a difference between protection and isolation.
